Two dead and 20 injured, including police, in KP’s Wana blast.
In the Wana tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower South Waziristan district, a bombing targeting a police vehicle on Thursday resulted in two fatalities and twenty injuries.
Terrorist attacks have increased in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, and they primarily target security forces, law enforcement officers, and the police. After the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is banned, violated a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022, attacks escalated.
According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, Deputy Superintendent of Police Imranullah stated, “A remote-controlled explosive device planted near a police vehicle [in the Rustam Bazaar] caused the blast.”
According to the Wana District Headquarters Hospital’s incident report, there were two fatalities, twelve major injuries, and eight minor injuries.
Two injured police officers were identified as Fareedun Zubair from Birmal tehsil and Zubair Salaam Khan from the Dabkot area of the district in a list of casualties released by South Waziristan police spokesperson Anayat Khan.
“The wounded were taken immediately to the Wana District Headquarters Hospital,” Tahir Khan, the District Police Officer (DPO) for Lower South Waziristan, had previously told Dawn.com.
Following the explosion, security personnel surrounded the area and began a search to find the culprits, DPO Khan continued.
The officer added that an investigation was being conducted to ascertain the type of bomb that was used.
The incident happened after locals in Wana’s Rustam Bazaar, a significant commercial center in Lower South Waziristan, complained about the open display of firearms and the unrestricted movement of armed men.
Nobody was permitted to walk around Rustam Bazaar with a weapon in their hand, according to sources, and stringent measures would be put in place shortly to stop the practice.
The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank, reported that there was a minor increase in militant violence in Pakistan in July. With 53 of the 82 attacks reported nationwide, KP, including its tribal districts, continued to be the epicenter of militancy.
In the district’s Ladha tehsil, Deputy Commissioner Asmatullah Wazir’s car was attacked a day ago, injuring two people, including a police constable.
Additionally, two distinct shooting incidents in the districts of Karak and Peshawar in KP yesterday resulted in the martyrdom of seven people, including four security personnel and a police officer.
The banned TTP (Gul Bahadar group) and relatives of elder Malik Ashiq Noor clashed in the Dana area of Lower South Waziristan’s Birmal tehsil last Sunday, killing two militant commanders and the brother of a tribal elder.
As the late-night assault on the Bannu police post was repulsed, a cop was hurt.
A late-night terrorist attack on the Khuni Khel police post in the Bannu district of KP was repelled by police and civilians, but one officer was hurt.
In a statement, Bannu DPO Saleem Abbas Kulachi said, “Police personnel responded strongly to the terrorist attack while demonstrating bravery and determination.”
The officer went on to say that locals joined the police and took up positions against the attackers, adding that “a policeman got injured by the terrorists’ firing and was taken to a hospital.”
DPO Kulachi emphasized that the police’s bravery was further enhanced by the residents’ bravery. He claimed that “the net around the terrorists is being tightened.”
A late-night terrorist attack on the Khuni Khel police post in the Bannu district of KP was repelled by police and civilians, but one officer was hurt.
Attacks have occurred in a number of KP locations in recent months, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur. In July, Bannu police officers were specifically targeted.
Following a terrorist attack on a police checkpoint in Bannu last week, three terrorists and a constable were killed in a gunfight, and three police officers were injured.
The military claims that the TTP is responsible for the numerous quadcopter attacks that have occurred in Bannu in the last month.
