No Ukraine Deal as Trump and Putin Conclude High Stakes Alaska Meeting

Trump Putin Alaska Summit handshake before high-stakes talks

The Alaska summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin ended without progress on the Ukraine war. After nearly three hours of talks, both leaders left empty-handed.

All eyes were on the remote venue as Trump and Putin tried to show warmth. They greeted each other with a firm handshake and exchanged smiles. Yet once the meeting closed, the outcome disappointed. “Progress was made,” Trump said, before adding, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal.”

Trump gave little detail about the stumbling blocks. Still, he urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky absent from the talks to come to the table.

He praised Putin, stressing the claim that the war would not have started if he had remained in power. Trump also blamed Joe Biden for failing to deter Russia’s 2022 invasion. He rated the summit “a 10 out of 10,” though no real achievement followed.

Putin proposed holding the next round in Moscow, a suggestion some analysts say surprised Trump. Observers argue the Russian leader came out stronger, boosting his prestige and showing Moscow’s influence on the world stage.

For now, uncertainty lingers. The Alaska summit opened the door to more dialogue, but it also showed how difficult peace on Ukraine remains.
