Seales’ Six-Wicket Masterclass Fires West Indies to Historic ODI Series Win Over Pakistan
TAROUBA — A fiery spell from Jayden Seales fired the West Indies to a commanding 202-run victory over Pakistan in the third and deciding one-day international in Trinidad on Tuesday, sealing their first ODI series win over the visitors in more than three decades.
The 26-year-old pacer ripped through Pakistan’s top order, finishing with career-best figures of 6-18, as the tourists crumbled for just 92 in pursuit of 295.
Batting first, the West Indies posted 294-6, anchored by a superb unbeaten century from captain Shai Hope. His 120* came during a late onslaught alongside Justin Greaves, with the pair adding 110 runs in just 8.1 overs to propel the hosts close to the 300 mark.
This series triumph — their first over Pakistan in ODIs since 1991 — came as a much-needed boost for the Caribbean side after heavy defeats to Australia earlier in the year, where they were swept 3-0 in Tests and 5-0 in T20S.
Pakistan’s reply fell apart almost immediately. In the space of just three overs, Jayden Seales ripped out Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and Mohammad Rizwan, leaving the scoreboard a grim 8 for 3. Babar Azam tried to steady things but lasted only a short while before Seales trapped him lbw for nine — and with that, any real hope of a fightback was gone.
Gudakesh Motie chipped in during the middle overs, snaring two wickets, before Seales came back for another burst, cleaning up Hasan Ali and Naseem Shah to finish with a remarkable six-for.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s bowlers had started well after winning the toss, pegging the West Indies back to 68 for 3. Keacy Carty ground his way to 17 from 45 before falling lbw to Abrar Ahmed, while Sherfane Rutherford scratched out 15 from 40 before also departing. Roston Chase provided a quick lift with 36 before Naseem Shah sent him packing, and Mohammad Nawaz held a sharp caught-and-bowled to remove Motie.
But then came Shai Hope’s clean hitting and Justin Greaves’ late surge — a partnership that tore into the final overs, piling on runs and pushing the West Indies total out of Pakistan’s reach.
