Rawalpindi Woman, Mother of Three, Tortured to Death by Husband
RAWALPINDI: A mother of three was allegedly tortured to death by her husband over domestic disputes, police said on Friday.
An FIR has been registered against her husband and children on charges of murder and concealing evidence.
According to the complaint, Ghulam Akhtar, a resident of Kot Addu in District Muzaffargarh, stated that his daughter Samina had married Amir Abbas of her own choice 19 years ago. The couple had been living in Malik Colony on Girja Road, Dhamial, with their three children — Mohammad Zaman, 17, Shan Haider, 15, and Maryam Rani, 12.
Akhtar told police that on Wednesday morning an announcement was made in their hometown that Samina’s funeral would be held at 8 am, without his family being informed of her death.
Suspicious of the circumstances, Akhtar, accompanied by his brothers and sister Kalsoom Bibi, rushed to Abbas’s residence. He said his sister and other women noticed torture marks on Samina’s body.
Akhtar said he immediately contacted police in Kot Addu but was told the matter fell under the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi’s Dhamial police. Meanwhile, he alleged that Abbas and his children threatened him with dire consequences when he raised objections.
Following his complaint, Dhamial police registered a case and shifted Samina’s body to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Rawalpindi for a post-mortem examination.
In his statement, Akhtar alleged that his son-in-law, along with his children, had murdered his daughter. Police said investigations are under way.
