A person missing for 28 years was found in a melting glacier in Kohistan.
MANSEHRA: The corpse of a man, missing for almost 30 years in the Spat Valley of Kolai-Palas (Kohistan) district, has now been discovered. His body was located under a glacier which recently melted due to the sharp rise in temperatures.
“Recently, a massive glacier has melted, and with it, revealing the body of a man who was swept away by a glacier over 28 years ago. Local villagers were the ones to discover the body, as the glacier melted recently. District police officer Amjad Hussain briefed the reporters on the incident on Monday.
As told by the villagers, the deceased Naseerudden was said to have been carrying his horse while coming from Allai region of Battagram and was frozen inside the glacier. It became a popular tale.”
His body was discovered whole and recognizable; his national identity card was also recovered from his clothes,” the officers said while talking to reporters.
DPO Hussain said, “A group of visitors saw the body and told villagers nearby, who buried it at a local site and then told the family of the deceased.”
He said that Naseerudden had a son and a daughter who were still alive and living in the Allai area of Battagram.
There are rumors going around that the man was killed, but these are completely false. Mr. Hussain made it clear that his brother lived through the tragedy.
One resident said, “At the time of the incident, the family and residents even tried to search 150 feet deep into the glacier but were not able to.” “Now, the body would be moved to our home village of Koz Shayar, Gohir Abad, for a proper burial.”
