Google Marks Pakistan’s Freedom with Dazzling Independence Day Doodle

ISLAMABAD — Tech giant Google joined Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on Thursday, adorning its homepage with a vibrant doodle of the national flag to mark the country’s 79th year of freedom.

The artwork, splashed in the green and white of the Pakistani flag, links to a curated hub featuring patriotic songs, historical accounts of Pakistan’s creation, rare archival footage, and the latest Independence Day coverage.

In its tribute, Google highlighted August 14, 1947, as the day Pakistan emerged as a free and sovereign state, honouring the courage and vision of its founding leaders. Over the years, Google’s Independence Day doodles have spotlighted cultural icons and landmarks, but this year’s design focuses purely on the flag — a symbol of unity, resilience, and pride.

Nationwide celebrations this year carry an added sense of fervour in the wake of “Marka-e-Haq,” a recent military victory that leaders have described as a testament to national will.

In separate messages, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged Pakistanis to rise above political divisions and work toward a just, equal, and united country. They paid tribute to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, and the heroes of the Pakistan Movement, while saluting the armed forces and martyrs of Marka-e-Haq. Both leaders reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and called on India to resolve all disputes, including Kashmir, through dialogue.
