Altaf Hussain Discharged from Hospital After Health Scare.

Altaf Hussain has been released from a London hospital where he was being treated for a chest infection.

Altaf Hussain, the founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was released from a London hospital early on Saturday morning after being admitted for the second time in a month, according to a party official.

On July 10, the founder of the MQM was admitted to the hospital in London because of a “severe illness.” On July 23, he was released following numerous tests and blood transfusions.

Senior MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi, who is based in London, stated on X that Hussain was permitted to leave the hospital at 12:30 am GMT (5:30 am PKT) today after receiving treatment in its emergency ward for nine hours and undergoing a number of tests.

Doctors determined that he had a chest infection and severe flu after a battery of tests. “The doctors advised Mr. Altaf Hussain to rest completely and prescribed antibiotics and other medications,” Azizabadi said.

The founder of MQM “underwent a blood test, [electrocardiography], chest X-ray, and monitoring of oxygen levels,” according to Azizabadi, who detailed Hussain’s hospital stay.

“Hussain has conveyed his appreciation to all the employees and members of the public who prayed for his recuperation throughout his illness,” Azizabadi stated.

The founder of MQM had also stayed in a British hospital’s intensive care unit, presumably after getting Covid-19 in February 2021.

Since 1992, Hussain has lived in self-imposed exile in London, where he was subsequently granted British citizenship. Hussain then took an active part in politics, frequently broadcasting political speeches to his Karachi-based supporters.

Hussain established his party, formerly known as the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, in 1984 to speak for the Urdu-speaking population that had immigrated to Pakistan during Partition.

The MQM became the third-largest party in Sindh after winning a landslide victory in the 1988 urban elections under Hussain’s leadership.

Hussain’s MQM was charged with utilizing violence to seize and hold onto political power. Conversely, Hussain insisted that since the MQM’s founding, the government and other political parties have targeted the organization and its members.

Considered the man who ran Karachi from London, Hussain faced criticism in May 2013 for his televised speech across Pakistan in which he allegedly called for Karachi to be divided from the rest of Pakistan if the “establishment” did not accept his party’s public mandate. Later, the party claimed that the statement was misconstrued.

However, Hussain’s fiery speech in August 2016, in which he chanted anti-Pakistani slogans, was the catalyst for the MQM’s ultimate downfall.
